The interior painting & redesign of the dining room is now completed.
Below are photographs of the completed dining room.
Unfortunately i failed to take before photographs..sorry
I keep forgetting the before in the rush to the after.
Over the course of the past two weeks i have
repainted both the living and dining rooms,
walls and ceilings
and we redecorated both rooms.
We ordered a new round dining room table
and laid a new oriental carpet in the living room as well.

This week I moved onto one of the toughest projects:
Cleaning, organizing, and re-designing our garage.
This is going to be difficult and time consuming---
When accomplished, this rebuilding of the garage
will allow me to have a workbench to
work on my numerous projects and experiments,
and give my JoJo an area for her gardening projects
as well as housing for the pocket rocket.

I am enjoying this clean up and re-design process
working on the garage a bit each day
and look forward to the end result.
I get asked how retirement is going--- a lot...
Retirement is going great!
I'm sleeping well, waking up easily after 8 hours.
I appear to be self-organizing.
Selecting specific projects for the homestead to accomplish
one after another.
There are a tremendous amount of jobs for me to work which had been backed up
due to previously restricted available time.
My problem is actually in accepting that it will take me some time to
address all the issues that are requiring attention.
I do not want the retirement world to be all work all the time however.
I have thought-experimented several mechanical-artistic projects to
develop when the support areas are prepared.
I've also been reading, computing, writing,
but most of all I have been enjoying the time that i now have with
my JoJo & BB.
So I can honestly say that i have been enjoying these first months of retirement,
and that retirement is all that i hoped it would be.
I do believe that the single greatest element of retirement
is that after 50 years of work,
I can now determine for myself what i do with my day.
This is an amazing freedom for someone who has been ruled
by bosses since the age of 12.

The re-design of the living and dining room has created
a small quandary for me.
I had previously been computing on a table in the
corner of, what was, the TV room with my full size, Toshiba laptop.
The re-design of the area into a real dining room has now disallowed that process.
As an alternative I am going to micro compute in the living room on my
Fujitsu LifeBook U810 I purchased used several years ago.
I never could have afforded a Fujitsu LifeBook U810 when it was new..
and I was so lucky to find one used, in excellent condition, for sale.
This model was considered beyond state of the art, when first released.

The Fujitsu LifeBook U810 is extremely small but provides
all the services of a standard laptop.
This way i can couch compute without difficulty
and there is no unsightly computing equipment strewn about.

I scored large off Amazon this week for my strange world of collecting used tape players.
A 1980's vintage Sony CFS-1000 Boombox from Canada.
Here's a link to a short but excellent summary of
the world of boomboxes---and collecting.
How boomboxes got so badass

How boomboxes got so badass
This is the perfect smaller Boombox for my tape player collection.
No CD player on this unit, only radio and cassette tape.
Cassette tape only is exactly what i look for in a Boombox.
Cd playing capability defeats the purpose of searching out
a vintage Boombox.

This CFS-1000 is reportedly in perfect condition according to the seller,
and Canadians never lie eh?
My plan is to take this particular cassette player/radio out to our porches,

listen to my mix tapes while smoking, drinking coffee
and enjoying retirement in the spring.
JoJo and i took a day off from retirement and went
prowling a couple of the local junk/antique shops.
We enjoy doing this and plan on continuing to do so
throughout retirement.
Of course on our first junk expedition i find something that i
didn't purchase (yet anyway?) but truly covet.
A Braun T-1000 shortwave radio.
It is totally and completely insane that i could find one of these radios
in a junk shop, especially in my remote area.
Displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art
The Braun T1000 shortwave radio was classified as issued equipment to the German
Diplomatic Corps.
10 shortwave bands, Am/Fm and Mid band.
1962 state of the art German design and construction
these radios are amazing just to sit and stare at.
The T1000 I found was in near perfect condition and it even
included the manuals and instructions in the front
drop down panel compartment designed especially for the radio's paperwork.
The only problem was that inside the shop i could not
get the SW bands to work enough to even provide static...
although the FM and AM bands worked perfectly.
The cost is below what this radio is going for on the net.
I could never afford those prices--but still high enough
that i am up in the air over the chance that i may not
be able to get the SW bands to work.
I am thinking hard on this circumstance.....because
I do covet this radio. Who wouldn't ?
