Feeling excellent lately.
Keeping up on both personal and household projects.
Enjoying the yards---As the summer slowly ends and fall attempts to begin.
Things just feel good.
I won't question it.
I won't question it.
You may well be thinking there were no shortages of
strange things to remember in 1950's New Jersey.
If you are---you are correct.
Living just outside of New York City as a kid
I watched NYC's independent channel 11 WPIX whenever i could.
They had shit programming but ran
old (even for then) or B grade cheap Monster Movies.
King Kong was often broadcast of course, but others like Rodan,
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, the original, Howard Hawks version of the Thing,
and the neglected, overlooked classic--
Mighty Joe Young...
These SF/horror movies found a home on channel 11.
All in black and white.
Saturday nights, channel 11 would televise the local metro area fights.
I'd wind up staying with my father's spinster Aunt-- Elsie
(who was in her late late 70's at the time)
on Saturday nights.
The Parents would dump me off there..and go out
I'd stay the night.
Elsie was a huge fight fan.
She loved the fights on Channel 11.
Never missed them.
She lived in a public housing high rise old people's building in
what was really the projects in New Brunswick right off route 1.
We used to say that without the old people's building
there would be no steady supply of available victims.
But I digress.....
Elsie would be glued to the black and white set,
on Saturday nights
yelling at the fighters, critiquing their bouts...
smoking camels and drinking.
I was probably 7 or 8 and i would sit on the couch with her
watching the fights, until she went to bed---then came the monster movies.
She was a pretty shitty babysitter I suppose?
But a real Jersey girl.
Strange how a single thought line on old movies can bring back
the strangest memories...
I've been progressing steadily
on my Russian SU-34 kit.
The cockpit, pilot figures and basic external physical structure
while being assembled.
The pilots I painted in a representation of the
Russian high altitude orange flight suit.
I masked the canopy and was able to begin the
painting process prior to adding necessary external details.
There are multiple camouflage systems in place
for this particular aircraft.
The long range, high altitude, deep attack version of the SU-34 is often painted in
a black overcoat, with a flat light blue under surface.
This is the paint scheme I chose.
The top coat is a flat black color much like the stealth B-2 or F-117,
although the SU-34 is not a true stealth aircraft.
The SU-34 is capable of long range.
Projected long range missions for the SU-34 are the reasoning behind the large, hump like cockpit area which allows for a small chemical toilet,
and space for one of the crew members to stand or lie flat on
the floor for short rest periods.
While awaiting multiple coats of paint on the SU-34
to dry, I finished the paint and construction of
a 1/72 scale soviet airfield fuel truck.
It's a cool little truck model tho if I say so myself.
The photograph below displays both the finished aircraft
and the base with fuel truck display.
I have not secured anything in it's final position
on the SU-34's base--I am still working out how i
eventually want to display it?
My next aircraft model project--
another large soviet aircraft the TU-26.

Let me say up front that I love elementary
but I am sorry to say---season three sucks for a good 50% of it.
I hate the fact that they brought in another female
character--Kitty.
Once she departs half-way through the season
things get better but..please fire the season three writers
and get back to what Elementary could be?
I hope that this horrible season three doesn't completely kill the show.

We've been watching this on DVD,
and found it to be surprisingly good.
Sort of like the Big Bang Theory meets Macgyver....

James McMurtry is one of my favorite artists in music.
He writes beautiful, thoughtful songs on contemporary issues.
